Ngā Pou o Heretaunga

A great starting point for celebrating and learning more about Mana Whenua / local hapū.
An integral part of our identity while residing on Ngāti Kahungunu whenua.
18 Pou are carved with the utmost mana to represent a Marae / Tūpuna within our rohe by the gifted hands of their descendants.
The 19th pou was gifted by Pā Marie Ariki, Queen of Rarotonga, and represents the ancient connection that Ngāti Kahungunu of the Takitimu waka have to the people of Rarotonga and the wider Pacific.
Numbered in accordance to the origin where you’ll also find details of their tohunga whakairo / carver. Come down, and celebrate the absolute totality of Toi Māori & Mana Whenua ☀️

Tōtara for the Pou are from Waimana, a gift from the Tūhoe people.
